Art in Action
Art in Action is a craft and artistic practice demonstation program at the Port Townsend Public Library. It aims to connect patrons with the Library’s collection through live presentations of a craft depicted in one of the collection’s items. It has featured artists, artisans, and craftspeople sharing their skills in wheat weaving, fly-tying, crochet, fiber spinning and much more. Craftspeople and artists of all types are encouraged to apply.
Programs happen on selected Friday afternoons from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A table is set up near the library’s circulation desk and patrons come by to learn about the presenter’s craft either through observation or trying their own hand, depending on the activity and artist. This interactive set up is a great way to introduce the public to different craft and art practices, as well as bring the library’s collection to life. Librarians will help find items that correspond with the practice being demonstrated.
Presenters receive a $50.00 stipend. Applications are open on an ongoing basis.
