Project Overview

The Port Townsend Arts Commission announces an open call for artists interested in designing and fabricating small sculptural works that will be awarded as trophies to the winners of the 2027 Port Townsend Art Awards. Three-dimension work in any medium—metal, work, ceramic, glass, textile, paper, assemblage, or other materials—will be considered.

This project is designed to highlight local artists through original artwork that represents the art community’s deep and enduring practice of producing meaningful visual culture. We request that AI not be used for work made in response to this CFA.

Project Logistics

  • The artist/artist team will create six (6) original three-dimensional pieces which will be presented to the winners of the Port Townsend Art Awards. Three to six artists will be chosen to receive awards. The City of Port Townsend will keep any sculptures created but not awarde
  • The base of the work should be approximately 5 inches by 5 inches, and it should stand approximately 8 inches tall (these are loose guidelines to align with previous artist-created trophies)
  • Regardless of the material used, the pieces should be durable and display-ready
  • The pieces should include a gold or metallic element/feature
  • Each sculpture should be roughly commensurate in size and intricacy and work as a stand-alone piece of art (all six can be identical if desired)
  • Pieces must be completed and delivered by December 1, 2026
  • Payment will be made after the work is delivered
  • The artist/artist team commission is $1,500

The City of Port Townsend will announce the project and feature the chosen artist/artist team in promotions related to the Art Awards, which will be held on March 5, 2027.
