SALISH SEA BUTOH FESTIVAL is an annual artistic convergence in Port Townsend to celebrate and deepen the study of Japanese Butoh (舞踏, Butô), an avant-garde form of contemporary dance-theater from Tokyo known for its striking physicality and meditative atmosphere. Since 2021, our summer festival has featured immersive Butoh dance workshops taught by master teachers from Japan and renowned guest artists from around the world. Our 9-day festival in Port Townsend also features student workshop performances with live music, free artist lectures, and stage performances open to the public featuring our international teaching artists. Our event is the only of its kind on the Olympic Peninsula.
